Beginner Private Sewing Lessons - Sew a Simple Cape (Victoria, BC)

Learn to sew your own hooded cloak in a fun, beginner-friendly private lesson designed to build confidence from the very first stitch. In this hands-on 3-hour session, you will create a stylish, wearable cape—perfect for cosplay, LARPing, or simply adding a touch of drama to your wardrobe. 

No prior sewing experience is required. You will be guided step-by-step through the process, from basic machine use to simple construction techniques, all in a supportive, relaxed environment. By the end of the lesson, you will leave with a finished hooded cloak and the foundational skills to continue sewing on your own. 

After Ordering:

After your order is placed, I will contact you by email to schedule the lesson. I will also ask for your measurements for the pattern sizing. The email will come from contact@remade-in-the-shade.ca. If you do not receive an email within 24 hours check your spam filters

Supplies to bring to class:

• Fabric for your cape that is large enough to fully wrap around your body with at least 12 inches of overlap. You can purchase fabric or better yet, use thrifted fabric such as curtains, drapes, bedspreads, or similar textiles Please pre-wash your fabric before class.

• One spool of matching thread. Gutermann thread is suggested and can be purchased at Walmart or a fabric store.

Prefer to show up and start sewing? You can select the “provided” option at checkout  and for an additional $25 all required materials will be prepared for you.
